Why does my prescription change?

February 10, 2024

Change is an inevitable constant. Landlines are disappearing, DVDs have been replaced by streaming and then there's our bodies.
Our shoe size changes, our hair (unfortunately) changes and so does our vision. Contrary to a popular myth, changing your spectacle prescription doesn't make your eyes worse. Often, having weaker lenses only means you will get eye strain, headaches, and can sometimes even make your prescription worse.
Our eyes change and grow, just like the rest of our bodies. This impacts the prescription, especially when we're younger. It may stabilise mid-twenties and then start to change again in your forties. This is when changes to the elasticity to the lens inside the eye affect our focussing ability.

Change is not always welcome, but we can help you adjust to them when needed, helping you see and feel your best. Even if your prescription is stable, it's a good idea to get an eye test once every one to two years to check the eye for conditions such as cataracts.
